CIRCLE and WELCA
What is CIRCLE? You have maybe read about a Circle meeting in the Clarion or heard it announced at church or been invited by a friend or neighbor. But WHAT is CIRCLE?
CIRCLE is part of WELCA – Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the auxiliary of the local congregation.
CIRCLE is WOMEN – women of all ages, sizes, shapes, talents, professions and abilities. Together, we CIRCLE our church with love, prayers, and service.
CIRCLE is a monthly gathering of women to share a short Bible Study, a short meeting to plan for upcoming events in the church, and to share fellowship and friendship with one another. There is usually food!
WELCA is an opportunity for service. Each year the WELCA executive board, in conjunction with the Circles, sponsors a Spring Luncheon, a Spring Give Away (like a rummage sale, but all is free) and the big Fall Rummage Sale and Lunch. These are fund raising events, with the money going to parish projects and a variety of charities. In addition, a number of ministries in the wider church are supported through the local donations. Women will be called on from time to time to provide food or work to serve the fund raising events, funerals and the monthly potlucks. Together we can do so much more than anyone of us can individually.
HOPE CIRCLE is the group that meets at 5 PM on the Second Monday of each month, September through May, at the Horizons Assisted Living facility, attached to the Good Shepherd Home.
PEACE CIRCLE is the group that meets at 1:30 PM on the Second Wednesday of each month, September through May, at the church. (Sometimes Peace meets at 2 PM at the Horizons instead)
SUMMER CIRCLE is all the women who gather for a morning of Bible Study on a summer day that may include lunch. Watch the Clarion and bulletin for the day and time.
Do you feel that you don’t know enough to participate in a Bible Study? Neither do the rest of us!!! That’s why we meet TOGETHER, to study together and help each other gain understanding of the role God has for us in this world; to gain an assurance of His extravagant love for us in Christ; to learn that we do not have to be Good Enough for God, only believe and accept the gift of His Grace in Christ’s Cross.
Pastor Mark from the First Lutheran Church and Pastor Barb from the Glory of the Lord Church run Watford City’s district Salvation Army.
They offer help with shelter, transportation, and safety. They direct people in need to Watford’s various ministries.

Baaken Oil Rush Ministries
The hope for a better life and financial security brought many families to the Bakken during the height of the oil boom. Many of these families knew very little about North Dakota, its climate, the lack of social service resources, and the cost of living. Some families came to Watford City with no resources, using whatever money they had for the gas needed to make the journey. Single men, women, and young families lived in campers, even through the harsh North Dakota winters. And what most of these people weren’t expecting was to find themselves in desperate times and in dire need.
The Bakken Oil Rush Ministry in Watford City is and has been serving a population in desperation. Jim and Kathie Konsor’s heart is to remain in Watford City and continue to meet the needs of the people for years to come.

Lutheran World Relief
Mission: Affirming God’s love for all people, we work with Lutherans and partners around the world to end poverty, injustice, and human suffering. The way we work is the most efficient, effective path that we have found to affect positive and enduring change. By building on the resources that exist in a community, our projects create sustainable development.
We attack poverty at its roots — where problems such as poor health, hunger, lack of skills or opportunity and environmental issues are all woven together — to break down the barriers that trap people in cycles of poverty and make them especially vulnerable to crises.
At the same time, we build up the community’s core assets — resources such as labor and skills, health and a healthy environment — that allow people to pursue productive lives.
Our goal is always to identify local solutions to poverty that can be replicated and scaled up to reach an ever increasing number of people.
Our quilters meet every Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. All quilts made, go to Lutheran World Relief, our high school graduates or to our newly baptized children.
This group is the same group that gathers material for students in need, Christmas projects, etc.
